2008 WUSV TEAM SELECTION GUIDELINE

Effective as of 1998, the GSDCA-WDA National Championship will also serve as the WUSV Team Qualification Trial for the GSDCA.  To qualify a dog must be under 10 years of age at the start of the WUSV Trial.  The 2008 GSDCA team will then be selected subject to the following criteria:

  1. The two top scoring dog/handler teams with individual scores of 270 “pronounced” or better will automatically qualify.  The third place dog/handler team will become the alternate, subject to the same restrictions.  The remaining dog/handler teams who have met the qualifying criteria will be placed on a “reserve list” in descending order of placement.

  1. If fewer than three dog/handler teams qualify according to item 1, the GSDCA-WDA Board of Directors will make a decision about filling empty slots.  It is clearly in our best interest to field a team that is both complete and of high quality.  If fewer than four dog/handler teams automatically qualify, we must be prepared to exercise good judgment.

  1. A handler may enter the qualification trial with more than one dog.  If the handler “qualifies” with more than one dog, only the highest scoring of these dogs will be included on the team.  The second dog will be removed from the list of qualifiers and the next highest scoring dog/handler team will take its place.

  1. If a dog/handler team should be unable to participate in the WUSV Trial after being selected for the team, the alternate dog/handler team shall replace them.  Should the handler of a dog that is unable to participate, have also “qualified” with a second dog, that dog/handler team would then be placed at the top of the reserve list.  The handler/dog team at the top of the reserve list shall then become the alternate.

  1. Except in exceptional circumstances, no dog/handler team will be selected for the WUSV Team if they have not participated in the GSDCA-WDA National Championship/WUSV Qualification Trial.
